Afriplex is proud to announce the birth of another exciting product produced in collaboration with the honeybees of the Western Cape, South Africa. The extract contains the active components found in propolis and may be formulated in cosmetic and food supplement formulations.
African bees accumulate material from a variety of plants, to form a resinous substance in order to protect their beehive. This resinous substance, called Propolis, seals the holes and cracks, smoothens the inner surface and retains the internal temperature of the beehive at 35°C. In addition, propolis hardens the cell wall and ensures an aseptic internal environment in the beehive.
Historically propolis has been used by humans as a medicinal remedy. It’s antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and immunomodulatory properties make it effective in treating various diseases. The product is a popular ingredient in dermatological products due to its antiallergy, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial properties, and promotive action on type I and type II collagen synthesis in tissues. Studies have shown accelerated wound healing properties and positive results in the treatment of acne vulgaris. In addition, the antifungal and antibacterial activities Afriplex’s Propolis Extract will assist in the promotion of wound closure.
