Since its inception, Afriplex strives to provide its clients with innovative and unique product offerings for the CAMs, Botanicals and Food & Beverage markets. With this in mind, Afriplex is actively pursuing several new areas of research and technological development in order to retain its competitive edge.
Afriplex is proud to be the dedicated cannabis testing laboratory for the Cannabis Research Institute (CRI). In addition to maintaining rigorous cannabis testing standards for locally produced and imported product, Afriplex also conducts several novel research projects in collaboration with the CRI and other international research institutions. One such project involves assisting the CRI with the integration of their new South African developed track & trace system with Afriplex’s Quality Management System. This will ensure comprehensive traceability of cannabis material and products in all African countries where Afriplex offers custom-built facilities and technologies.
Additionally, Afriplex is investing in the development of smart drug delivery methods. Danie Nel, Afriplex Managing Director said: “The method by which a drug is delivered can have a significant effect on its efficacy. To minimize drug degradation, prevent harmful side-effects and to increase drug bioavailability, various drug delivery and drug targeting systems are currently being developed. Afriplex is focused on utilizing several state-of-the-art nanotechnologies to develop unique dosage forms with emphasis on controlled API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) release and improved bioavailability. We are proud to announce the commercialization of our new Liposome technology brand, LIPOZOME®. This technology will enable improved bioavailability, better protection against degradation, unpleasant flavour masking and targeted drug delivery”. Afriplex and its partners are currently scaling up production on a brand new multi-million-rand facility with scheduled release for Q3, 2020.
Afriplex will showcase their services at the CannaTech Summit, a prestigious international event focussed on the cannabis industry, in Cape Town from 24 to 26 November 2019. Afriplex believes that this engagement with the cannabis industry will add value and assist with growing both the local and international markets.
